The Somerset Symphony Orchestra (which has rebranded from its former name, Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra) will open its 51st season with a free concert.

The concert, entitled River Fest, will include suites from Bizet’s opera Carmen, featuring soprano Cheri Rose Katz, as well as Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, Op. 97, “Rhenish.”

Music Director Michael Avagliano will conduct, beginning his 14th season with the orchestra.

“I am very excited to resume performances with the orchestra, now with our new identity as the Somerset Symphony Orchestra,” Mr. Avagliano said. “As has always been true, we aim to present excellent concerts for both loyal and new listeners, and will continue our tradition of performing timeless symphonic music at the highest level to the people of central Somerset County and beyond. We are incredibly grateful to all our front-line workers – without whom our return to the stage would not be possible.”
