All profits after expenses will be donated to Club Serenity to aid in their mission of promoting Recovery…One Day at a Time.

Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side under the shadow of the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the early 1990’s.

RENT  is a dramatic, yet uplifting story, using rock music to evoke the tough, angry, and terrifying reality of a world wrought with drug addiction, suicide, and AIDS—all underscored by a theme of hope.

For a quarter of a century, Jonathan Larson’s RENT  has inspired us to choose love over fear and to live without regret. “It gives people hope who feel that ‘I’m different’ and ‘I don’t fit.’ This says, ‘It doesn’t matter,’” says James Nicola, artistic director of New York Theater Workshop, which nurtured RENT. It says, ‘You can go out and make your own community.’”  With its inspiring message of joy and aspiration in the face of fear, this timeless celebration of friendship and creativity reminds us to measure our lives with the only thing that truly matters—love."

The Brook Arts Center and Media and Performance Collective are non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organizations committed to cultivating the arts in Somerset County and throughout New Jersey in order to inspire creativity, learning, and growth through the performing arts.
