The Montclair Orchestra in Your Living Room
The Montclair Orchestra is excited
to return to our local Montclair community for a virtual performance from the Van Vleck House & Gardens. On November
19th you will be transported! Enjoy chamber music presented in the gorgeous
salon of the Van Vleck House from your own home. Witness the passionate and
dynamic artistry of MO Mentors and Fellows as they perform string octets by
Shostakovich and Mendelssohn.
Over the last few weeks, our musicians have been working diligently to produce
this concert recording. We can't wait to share it with our MO family! Here is
what MO Fellow Njioma Grevious had to say about her experience returning to the
stage and making music with her fellow musicians.
"Performing the Mendelssohn
Octet and the Zwei Stücke für Streichoktett by Shostakovich this past weekend
was absolutely thrilling. Even performing a full concert program with masks
on—an experience I had yet to have—I still felt the presence of every musician
on stage. This was my first time performing the Shostakovich and I felt a
special connection to the fourth violin part as he wrote many beautiful lines
and solos throughout.
For the past four years of my undergraduate education, experiences like these with the Montclair Orchestra have provided me with musical sustenance and a sense of learning and joy that I look forward to throughout each year. As an aspiring orchestral and chamber music violinist, the opportunity to learn and perform with some of the best professionals in the world and fellow college students has been crucial in my development as an artist. I would like to thank Maestro Chan, Andre Weker, the donors, and all who make the Montclair orchestra experience possible." ~Njioma Grevious
