Learn How to Draw Dogwoods
With
Heidi Sandecki, Botanical Artist
In part IV of her Botanical Art series for Greenwood Gardens, artist and
educator Heidi Sandecki teaches us how to draw a cluster of dogwood flowers in
easy-to-follow steps.
Heidi Sandecki is a visual artist who
simultaneously traverses the field of graphic design and the world of
botanical fine art. Her love of botanicals was cultivated at a young age
when she spent summers at her grandparents' farm in Roxbury, New York and
gained years of gardening experience helping tend her mother’s vast rose
and vegetable garden in Allendale, New Jersey.
Heidi
holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from
the School of Visual Arts. She is a member of the American Society of
Botanical Artists, and an Exhibiting Member of both the Essex Water Color
Club and the New Jersey Watercolor Society. Heidi currently works as an
adjunct professor within the Graphic Design program for such institutions
as Seton Hall University and Caldwell University and is an instructor in
the Adult School Department of the Montclair Public Library and the
Morris Museum.
“My
goal is to encourage a visceral connection with nature through teaching
botanical art drawing,” writes Heidi. “This can hopefully remind us to
appreciate how fragile our environment can be from moment to
moment."
