ELLIS ISLAND MUSEUMS ARE NOW OPEN
We are pleased to announce that after months of being shutdown
due to COVID-19 concerns, Ellis
Island and the Statue of Liberty Museum have reopened to visitors with safety
measures in place! Your Statue Cruises ferry ticket will once
again take you to both Liberty and Ellis Island.
The Ellis Island National Museum of
Immigration is self-guided. You may also use your audio
guide to explore the museum, which is included with the purchase of a ferry
ticket. There are no Park Ranger tours at this time. Due to COVID-19
precautions, the library, interactive exhibits and theaters remain closed. New American
Immigrant Wall of Honor panels are expected to be installed by
Monday, 8/31.
While in the museum, stop by the American Family
Immigration History Center to research your family’s
immigration to America. Containing more than 65 million passenger records, the
Center’s database includes ship arrivals in the Port of New York from 1820 –
1957. These records are offered for purchase. Special cleaning procedures are in place at the kiosks
and research stations. Please note that face masks are mandatory in the History
Center.
Although visitors cannot yet go inside the
Statue, the
Statue of Liberty Museum is now welcoming visitors! Use the free audio
tour to explore the story of the Statue’s creation, her history, and her
evolving meaning to people across the world. See Lady Liberty's original torch
that she held high for a century, and then visit the vista roof to take in the
spectacular 360 degree view of New York Harbor – a must-see for photographers!
Interactive exhibits and the theater remain closed due to COVID-19
restrictions.
Reserve your ferry tickets with Statue
Cruises, the only ferry that takes you to the islands and
their museums. Boats currently sail to the islands from Battery
Park, NYC and Liberty State Park, NJ from 8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. daily. The
islands are open until 5:00 P.M.
