COME HOME TO GREENWOOD GARDENS THIS SEPTEMBER
Dear Friends,
Our historic oasis is a source of delight as progress on the site’s extensive renovations moves forward. Changes emerge daily.
- A huge mound of earth in the Garden of the Gods’ former pool evolved seemingly overnight into a precisely formed basin and set of steps nestled within its romantic woodland setting.
- Stately lampposts suddenly appeared at intervals starting at the top of the Main Lawn stairs leading down the Main Axis and ending at the top of the Garden of the Gods stairs.
- From one day to the next, elegant concrete pads were poured and placed at the corners of the Croquet Lawn, patiently awaiting delivery of the classic teak benches that will provide gracious seating for visitors.
- The stone veneer on our quaint new ticket kiosk quickly turned a modern necessity into a noteworthy first stop for visitors.
The entire staff of Greenwood, along with a team of contractors, is working tirelessly to ensure the final touches are made throughout the garden in time to reopen this fall for Members on Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12, and the general public on Sunday, September 13.
You won’t be surprised to learn that we’ve made some necessary adjustments to accommodate the impact of COVID-19, including requiring advance purchase of timed tickets to enter, creating an expanded Garden Guide to accompany you on your self-guided tours, and asking you to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing for safety. More information about these and other rules of etiquette can be found on our website greenwoodgardens.org.
We look forward to seeing you in the fall when the garden will be ready for you to take a revitalizing walk back in time.
Wishing you good health and joy in the remaining days of summer,
