February at the RVCC Planetarium: Astronomy Shows & Laser Concerts

Follow the Drinking Gourd

Saturdays, February 1 & 8 at 3:00 pm

"Follow the Drinking Gourd" introduces the audience to the daytime and nighttime skies, in particular, how to find the Big Dipper. We learn the song “Follow the Drinking Gourd” and discover the clues within the song that helped African American slaves escape from the south to the north. We conclude the show by reading the story “Follow the Drinking Gourd” by Jeanette Winter. (Recommended for ages 6-12)


Laser Magic

Saturdays, February 1, 8, 15, 22 at 4 pm

"Laser Magic" has a song list to entertain kids and kids at heart with “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles, “Let It Go” by Idina Menzel, “Fireworks” by Katy Perry, and “We Will Rock You” by Queen. (Recommended for ages 6-12)




Astronomy Tonight

Saturday, February 1, 7:00 pm

a live talk inside the planetarium, introducing you to the stars we can see in tonight’s sky.(Recommended for ages 8 to adult)




Laser Bon Jovi

Saturdays, February 1 & 8, 8:00 pm

Sing along with hits including “Livin’ On a Prayer,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “I’ll Be There For You,” and “Runaway.”




To Worlds Beyond

Saturdays, February 8, 22, 29 at 7:00 pm

Discover what stars are visible in tonight's sky. Then take an amazing journey through our solar system, visiting each of the planets. Beautiful images taken from orbiting satellites blend with high-end animations and current information on our neighborhood of planets.


Earth, Moon, Sun & Coyote

Saturdays, February 15 & 22 at 3:00 pm

Coyote thinks he knows everything about the sky, but is surprised by how many misconceptions he really has about eclipses, moon phases, and the motions of the day and night skies. The program also includes a live-narrated introduction to the night sky. (Recommended for ages 6-12)


Rock of Ages laser concert

Saturdays, February 22 & 29, 8:00 pm

All these songs are drawn from the popular Broadway show and feature film. Sing along to "We Built this City" by Starship, "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister, and "Talk Dirty to Me" by Poison. (Recommended for ages 10-adult)


WHERE: RVCC Planetarium, 118 Lamington Rd., Branchburg
ADMISSION: $10 per person for one show, $18 per person for two shows on the same day

There is no late admission to a show. Please arrive 20-30 minutes before show time.

Payment is made the day of the show at the Planetarium.
