The Thurnauer School of Music at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Invites Musicians of All Ages to Audition for Performance Ensembles

The Thurnauer School of Music at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, New Jersey’s leading community music school, invites musicians from the tri-state area to its Spring Ensemble Auditions for the 2019-20 school year.

Auditions will be held for participation in chamber music ensembles:

  • The String Camerata and Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra
  • TeenTown Jazz Big Band
  • Young People’s Chorus @ Thurnauer
  • chamber music ensembles
  • In addition, the school will hold placement evaluations for music theory classes.
  • Auditions for Senior Flute Choir and the Percussion Ensemble are available by appointment.

“We are very excited for our 37th season at the JCC Thurnauer School of Music,” said founding director Dorothy Kaplan Roffman. “We invite musicians of all ages and abilities to share their talents with us and see how they can grow and thrive at the music school under the guidance of our outstanding faculty.”

Thurnauer ensembles rehearse weekly and are led by highly skilled and dedicated teachers.  Each ensemble performs several times throughout the year and has unique opportunities to perform with renowned guest artists. In the past this has included great legendary musicians such as violinist Joshua Bell, New York Philharmonic music director Alan Gilbert, legendary jazz guitarist Larry Coryell, jazz artist New York Yankee, Bernie Williams, and artistic director and the founder of Young People’s Chorus Francisco J. Núñez.

All auditions are by appointment only. To schedule an audition, call 201-569-7900, ext. 375 or email rsearles@jccotp.org. Alternate dates or video auditions may be arranged for those unable to attend on June 2. The JCC Thurnauer School of Music’s 2018-19 school year begins late September.

Founded in 1984, the JCC Thurnauer School of Music serves over 500 students from infancy through adulthood, offering a comprehensive program similar to the finest pre-college conservatories.
