November 11, 2018 marks the 100th Anniversary of the peace treaty ending World War I.  This was celebrated for many years as "Armistice Day."  In 1954, it was renamed "Veterans Day."

To honor this anniversary, The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey will dedicate the first half of the November 11, 2018 concert to the Veterans with music associated with World War I and World War II.

Ragtime was the style dominating the early 20th century. The orchestra will play Scott Joplin's popular The Entertainer as well as selections by legendary composer George M. Cohan. For the flavor of World War II, the orchestra will play selections composed by Irving Berlin and songs made popular by Glenn Miller.

To honor our allies in the wars, the orchestra will play three dances by Tchaikovsky from The Nutcracker Suite for Russia, Nimrod from Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar for England, and Marche Militaire Francaise by Camille Saint-Saëns for France.

"My father was a radio operator on a B-17 during World War II," Maestro Butts said, "and I had an uncle who was in the trenches of World War I. This concert holds special meaning for me and my family. I hope you can join us."

The 2nd half of the concert will feature the popular Piano Concerto by Edvard Grieg with special guest artist, internationally acclaimed pianist Claudia Knafo.
