NBJP JAZZ WEEKLY October 23-26

Part of NBJP's mission is to showcase the next generation of jazz musicians ... the future "greats!" This is a chance to see them NOW! Trumpeter Luke Bakanas leads the band and the session.

Saxophonist, composer, arranger, bandleader, Virginia has been part of the NYC jazz scene since the mid '80s, and has led her own groups for 25+ years. She has worked with many renowned artists including Earl 'Fatha' Hines, Cab Calloway, James Brown, Junior Mance, Joe Williams, Marlena Shaw & Kenny Barron. She was selected a Downbeat 'Rising Star' and has been featured in Downbeat, Jazztimes and Jazziz magazines.  An established and respected educator, she teaches master classes the world over and has been an Artist-In-Residence at several universities. Virginia's 2012 CD, Mary Lou Williams - The Next 100 Years, was selected by Downbeat as one of the Best New Releases that year.

Hempton is an alto and tenor saxophonist, composer and bandleader producing new modern, mainstream jazz. Calling NYC home since 2004, he headlines clubs in the city, as well as venues and festivals worldwide. Influenced by the greats of the instrument like Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Cannonball Adderley, etc, and informed by a youth misspent playing R&B and ska in his native Australia, Nick's jazz is original, approachable, and always swinging.

Stephen is known for his smooth virtuosity, which spans the breadth of jazz, blues, latin, swing, bossa nova and contemporary classics.  This dynamic bass/baritone sings to packed houses, across the predominately upscale supper club circuit, on either side of the Hudson River. Come out Friday and enjoy your favorite cocktail or pasta and "Fullersounds!

Originally from New York City, Glenn Merritt has been playing music since he was a youngster. He has a very tasteful style with lush chord voicing and a wonderful improvisational ability picked up from his studies with his mentor the late Morris Nanton of the famed Morris Nanton Trio.
