Studio Montclair (SMI) and The Creativity Caravan present an artist-based, community-oriented portrait show.

Inspired by the original Art Lotto in Harrisonburg VA, the show encouraged artists to connect and collaborate in a unique way. Each artist was randomly paired with another to create a portrait of that person, but the artists were not paired with each other. Curators Amy Tingle and Maya Stein state: “We invited the participating artists to stretch outside their usual medium, if desired, and to experiment with unexpected or unconventional materials and techniques. The result is a wonderfully deep and diverse collection of work that also paints a broader ‘portrait’ of the creative community of Studio Montclair as a whole.”

Art Lotto is the inaugural entry in what will be an on-going Studio Montclair Community Partnership Exhibit series. Each year, SMI will collaborate with a non-profit or creative organization to create an exciting exhibit. States SMI Executive Director, Susanna Baker: “These collaborations will inspire SMI’s membership and create new connections, while building on our goal of enhancing community outreach.”
