SHAKESPEARE BOOK CLUB: Poetry and the Fate of the Nation

WHEN: Tuesdays, 7:00 – 9:30 p.m., September 25 – November 13

The Fall Session dives into some of Shakespeare's richest poetry and examines how the power of language can be used to either build or decimate a world. Plays covered include Richard II, All's Well That Ends Well, and The Winter's Tale (ahead of its Main Stage production this December). This series will also examine disparate directorial visions of Shakespeare on stage and screen.

THE FALL INTENSIVE: CLOWNING with STNJ Company Member Kevin Isola

WHEN: Saturday, October 13 – 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 14 – 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  Ripley Grier Studios (37th Street and 8th Avenue) in New York City

The work of veteran company member Kevin Isola focuses on risk-taking and emboldening the actor to face creative work with specificity and fearlessness. Last seen at STNJ thrilling audiences as Mascarille in The Bungler, Mr. Isola has been featured throughout the region, including in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Two River Theatre), Our Lady of 121st Street (Signature Theatre Company), as well as Jim Carrey's How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Mr. Isola teaches clowning at NYU's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. As he states, this class will allow students to "fall squarely on their bums in a way that is fun and will make risk-taking a part of their approach to any material." Skip the gym and grab a friend for this fun and unique alternative to your usual workout routine. Learn some of the skills utilized by actors in stage combat while burning a few calories, having fun, and experiencing something totally new! No experience required.

ONE-ON-ONE MONOLOGUE COACHING FOR COLLEGE AUDITIONS (grades 8-12)
WHERE:
F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, 36 Madison Ave., Madison

Students spend time with the instructor in one-on-one sessions, learning to select, prepare and execute classical and contemporary monologues for their upcoming college/ professional auditions. The class includes some Audition/Monologue basics (attire, headshots, resumes, interviews, etc...) and is designed to help the student develop a system for how to approach new material, how to keep old material sharp, and how to objectively and constructively critique and gauge his/her own work
