SUMMER HAS ARRIVED @ THE RVCC PLANETARIUM!

A Profusion of Planets

There are 4, yes, four planets you can see in the evening sky!  (Technically, you may be able to catch a glimpse of Mercury, but it's so tough, we'll ignore it for now.)  Immediately after sunset, you may have noticed a bright light in the western sky. That's Venus. In the southwest, also quite bright, is Jupiter. By 9:30 or 10 pm, you may notice a cream-colored light in the south-southeast. That's Saturn.  Around 10 or 10:30 pm, red Mars is shining brightly in the eastern sky.  They, and the Moon, lie on or near a line called the Ecliptic—the path our Sun takes across the sky. Looking for all the planets and the Moon, you can draw the ecliptic across the night sky.
