Weekly rehearsals resume Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mendham. Harmonium schedules three major concerts—held in December, April, and June—as well as a Chamber Singers concert and special appearances throughout the year.

This year’s December concert, Navidad Nuestra, features Christmas works from South and Central America, including the charming title piece by Ariel Ramirez. It will include percussion and accordion accompaniment, as well as Darren O’Neill on guitar. The concert will be performed Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 8pm and Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 3pm at Morristown United Methodist Church.

Harmonium’s select Chamber Singers will present a concert with works by Gibbons, Arcadelt, Kevin Puts, Sarah Rimkus, Michael Rosin, and more, plus Hindemith’s Six Chansons. It will be performed Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 7:30pm at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison and Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 3pm at Christ Church in Short Hills.

In April, Harmonium Choral Society will present a major masterwork, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. There will be only one special performance, Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 1:30pm at St. Mary’s Abbey at Delbarton in Morris Township. It will include double Baroque orchestra The Sebastians, professional soloists including Dann Coakwell as Evangelist, and supertitles for English translation.

The June concert, A Thousand Beautiful Things, will include eclectic and uplifting selections from Annie Lennox to Palestrina. It will feature Esenvalds’s Only in Sleep, Gjeilo’s Unicornis Captivatur, and the winner of the 22nd annual High School Student Choral Composition Contest. The program will be performed Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 7:30pm and Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 7:30pm at Grace Church in Madison.

Harmonium concert soloists are usually selected from the chorus’s 100-voice membership, over one-third of whom are professional musicians and/or music educators. Singers are also invited to audition for the Harmonium Chamber Singers, a 20-voice vocal ensemble selected from the full Harmonium chorus.
