This year's film selections reflect the experiences of women from six continents, giving us compelling stories about sexual harassment, migration, human trafficking, social activism, and arts & culture. A few highlights of "Passages: Women In Transition," our 9th annual Women's History Month Film Festival include the opening night screening of "The Rape of Recy Taylor," the film that Oprah Winfrey referenced during her Golden Globe Speech, the March 29th concert by Newark native Antoinette Montague, the Saturday, March 31st screenings of Newark Native Nefertite Nguvu's film short "Myself When I Am Real," Break the Chain, and "Mama Africa: Miriam Makeba." Filmmaker Mariette MonPierre returns to the East Orange Public Library on April 2nd for the screening of her new documentary Between 2 Shores. This is our first year at the Scotch Plains Public Library on April 4th where we will screen recent award winner Secrets: A Coming of Age Selfie Film by NJ filmmaker Barbara Becker Holstein, and at the 1978 Gallery, Maplewood (April 5th) where we will screen famed actor Gabourey Sidibe's directorial debut film "Tale of Four." 2018 promises to be one of our finest festivals, yet! Eventually, the lab hopes to cultivate a script to screen program, supporting a collaborative relationship with industry professionals who can work with filmmakers in bringing their work to audiences |
