Stephen Culbertson of West Orange will conduct the Society of Musical Arts Orchestra in music of Beethoven, Bruch, Hanson, and contemporary composer, Michael Abels. Michael Emery, will be the featured soloist in Bruch's Concerto No. 1 in g minor for Violin and Orchestra. Also notable on the program is Abels' "Dance for Martin's Dream," reflecting the struggles and triumphs of Martin Luther King, Jr's civil rights efforts. Also on the program are Hanson's "Merry Mount Suite," and Beethoven's Egmont Overture.
The Society of Musical Arts was established more than 30 years ago to foster the love of musical performance in an inclusive setting, inviting amateur and professional players from Maplewood/South Orange and nearby communities to share their passion for music with diverse programming; culminating in three free community concerts each season.
