KAPLEN JCC ON THE PALISADES TO HOLD 3 IMPORTANT HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS

Yom Hashoah, Yom Hazikaron and & Yom Ha’atzmaut

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades will be holding the following three programs for the upcoming holidays:

Yom Hashoah

WHEN: Sunday, April 23, 6:30 pm ceremony; 7:30 pm film screening
WHERE:
Kaplen JCC, 411 Clinton Ave., Tenafly
ADMISSION: Free and open to the community

To observe Holocaust Remembrance Day, the JCC will be holding a moving ceremony organized by the Israeli Scouts, followed by a screening of Steal a Pencil for Me, a compelling documentary about the power of love and the ability of humankind to rise above unimaginable suffering. The film tells the true story of Ina and Jack, who write each other secret love letters at their peril, while enduring the horrors of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Produced by film director and screenwriter Michèle Ohayon, it was nominated for an Academy Award® and includes interviews with the couple, who survived to enjoy more than 60 years of marriage.

Yom Hazikaron

WHEN: Sunday, April 30, 7 pm
ADMISSION:
Free and open to the community

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades will commemorate Israel's fallen soldiers and victims of terror with a special ceremony in both English and Hebrew that will include presentations by community members and youth movement representatives. The program represents a collaboration between the JCC, IAC NJ and the Israeli Scouts and will conclude with an evening of moving music that will be sung in Hebrew.

Yom Ha’atzmaut Celebration

WHEN: Sunday, May 7, 3-6 pm
ADMISSION:
$18 per family

The Kaplen JCC will hold a community-wide celebration of Israel's independence. Enjoy live music, arts and crafts, activities for kids, and a “mini-market” selling Israeli and local goods. The program has been organized in collaboration with JCC, IAC NJ, Jewish Federation of Northern NJ, local Israeli scouts and other local organizations.

On the Map

WHEN: Sunday, May 7, 8 pm
ADMISSION:
$10/$12

After a day of celebrating Israel’s independence, the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades will hold a special screening of On the Map, an emotional and awe-inspiring documentary that recounts the story of how one Tel Aviv Maccabi team no one thought could win toppled the four-time defending European Champions and put Israel firmly “on the map.”
