Broadway production of School of Rock! (Photo by Matthew Murphy)SCHOOL OF ROCK is a brand-new musical based on the famous Paramount film written by Mike White, which starred Jack Black. The musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Completely disinterested in academic work, Dewey decides to create his own curriculum, turning his class into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. The stage musical on Broadway is produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who has composed 14 new songs to create a score, which also features all of the original songs from the movie. SCHOOL OF ROCK, with its sensational live kids’ rock band, is a loving testimony to the transforming power of music. May the spirit of rock be with you!

Scenes from the original School of Rock movie were filmed at UCPAC, a 1,300-seat historical Vaudeville Theatre in Rahway, New Jersey.

What to Prepare:

  • ACTORS: Prepare 32-bars of a song of your choice that shows range. Bring sheet music in the correct key and headshot/resume.
  • MUSICIANS: In addition to the five onstage actor-musicians, we are seeking advanced musicians 14-18 years old to play in the pit (electric guitar, drums, bass, keyboard). Prepare a one-minute piece that shows skill level. Instruments will be provided.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Those auditioning for the roles of Dewey, Zach, Katie, Lawrence, or Freddy, should be prepared for both the actor and musician audition portions. It is recommended to arrive by 10:30 am, to guarantee completion of both auditions.
  • There is a Production Tuition of $495 for those cast in KOTA's School of Rock Youth Production. Scholarships may be available for those who qualify.
