Theater and Musical Theater Classes for Children Ages 4 to 13

WHEN: September 19 - November 21

Little Luna
Ages 4 - 7
WHEN: 10 AM - 11 AM

In the Little Luna program, young performers discover the creative elements of drama through a basis in story-telling. Through fun games and exercises, Little Luna participants learn about different theatrical elements (sets, costumes, props, scripts, etc.) and how they combine to create a performance. The class culminates in a presentation for family and friends.

Musical Theatre
Ages 10 - 12
WHEN: 10 AM - 11 AM

Luna's Musical Theater Class allows children of all experience levels an opportunity to discover their individual talents, creativity and performing interests while exploring the basics of Musical Theater (acting, singing and dance). Young performers work collaboratively to explore vocal  technique, character-based song interpretation and choreography from Broadway musicals. The class culminates in a presentation for family and friends.

NEW: Performance Intensive
for ages 11 - 13
WHEN: Saturdays NOON - 1 PM

Our newest class offering for young performers ready to move beyond exercises and theatre games and dive into scene study and monologue work. Using age appropriate material from published plays, children will learn about character development and text analysis, with a focus on the technical skills necessary for a strong stage performance. The class culminates in a presentation for family and friends.

Meet Our Teachers

Danielle Renee Thompson first began her theater training at Newark's Arts High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Danielle recently starred in the Off-Broadway production of the world premiere of My Occasion of Sin by Monica Bauer directed by Frances Hill at Urban Stages Theater in NYC. Additionally, over the past couple of years, she has been touring a one women show, Warriors Don't Cry by Eisa Davis, directed by Trazana Beverly in New York and Connecticut through the Urban Stages Outreach program. When Danielle is not on the stage, she is off sharing her love for arts education in the classroom. She has been an acting teaching artist for New Jersey Performing Arts Center since '05 for programs like the Summer Youth Performance Workshop and the Young Artist Institute. She also teaches theater, performance technique and ballroom dance for the In-School residency programs at NJPAC.

Daryl L. Stewart is an actor, director and teaching artist. Stewart's regional music theater credits include Gershwins' My One & Only, The Wild Party, Disney's Aida, Carousel, Ragtime and Five Guys Named Moe! As an educator, Stewart serves as a teaching artist to over a dozen educational programs with the NJPAC Center for Arts Education, Cicely Tyson School of the Arts and Burnet Middle School. His Director/Choreographer credits include productions of High School Musical, The Wiz, Once On This Island, Seussical and Annie. Education: NY Conservatory for Drama, NYU, Papermill Playhouse Musical Theater Conservatory. He is two-time Rising Star Nominee and the 2014 Urban League YP Honoree for the Arts.
