The Monmouth Civic Chorus invites singers to a Summer Sing of lovely Requiem settings by Gabriel Fauré and John Rutter at the air-conditioned Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
The Fauré Requiem is a hauntingly beautiful piece, written in Paris in 1902. It has been called “a lullaby of death” because the composer envisioned paradise as a haven for the soul. The Rutter Requiem, written in 1985, is known for its ethereal soprano solo, Pie Jesu (Merciful Jesus). The composer is renowned as the conductor of the Cambridge Singers, one of Britain’s best-loved choirs.
The Sing is an opportunity to get to know the award-winning Monmouth Civic Chorus and its Artistic Director, Dr. Ryan Brandau. Dr. Brandau holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Yale School of Music, an MPhil in historical musicology from the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), and a BA in Music from Princeton University. Dr. Brandau is Artistic Director of Princeton Pro Musica and Amor Artis, and works with the Symphonic Choir of Westminster Choir College.
Singers are invited to audition for the Monmouth Civic Chorus 2015-16 season. Audition appointments are available on Wednesday evenings in Red Bank beginning in September. For membership information or an audition appointment, visit monmouthcivicchorus.org, e-mail membership@monmouthcivicchorus.org or call 732-933-9333.
