Peter Jacobs: The Collage Journal—The First Decade

This morning, Peter Jacobs rolled out of bed, poured himself a cup of coffee and reached into his leather shoulder bag for an X-Acto knife, some glue, a 9-x-12 inch self-healing mat and a 12-page Strathmore watercolor pad. He retrieved his copy of The New York Times from his front porch, and sat down at his kitchen table where he spent the next two hours creating a collage from the newspaper.

This is exactly what Jacobs did yesterday, and it’s what he will do tomorrow. In fact, Jacobs has basically adhered to this routine for the past 3,663 mornings in a row (and counting). Since that first morning, Jacobs has filled 308 Strathmore books, and has gone through 342 X-Acto blades and 374 acid-free glue sticks.  Read More...

To The Best of My Recollection

To the best of my recollection” might sound like a phrase drawn from the Watergate Hearings or a television courtroom drama, but it also suggests the fallibility of memory. A new exhibition of drawings at the Hunterdon Art Museum explores how we retell stories, and how information is lost or distorted when we consider the people and places in our lives.

The four artists whose works are featured in the show—Alex Gingrow, Carlos Rodriguez, Frank Magnotta and Michael Scoggins—approach the art of storytelling from fresh perspectives using text, art and sometimes both.

Lisa Macchi: New Works on Paper

Artist Lisa Macchi says the experience of painting is a living, breathing process that’s intuitive, improvisational, visceral and seductive.

“It’s a physical dance with the piece for me,” Macchi said. “My process is not to think too much and let the work take its own course.”

Last Days to Save on Our Summer Art Camps 

You only have a few days left to take advantage of our early registration discount for our summer camps!

Register before May 19 and save $20 per camp, per child.

Our art camps encourage children to learn and have fun while getting creative. Our instructors include professional artists and storytellers, book and fiber artists, and classroom and enrichment teachers.

Week-long camps for children ages 4 to 15 begin June 22 and run Monday through Friday until Aug. 21.
Morning sessions are from 9 AM to noon; afternoon camps from 1 to 4 PM. Some camps run a full day with a supervised lunch available. Summer Camp after-care is available from 4 to 5 PM.

Proceeds from the beer-and-food tasting fundraiser help support the Museum's education program for adults with disabilities; the “HAM in the Schools” program; and ArtZone, a free space in the Museum where children can make art.

Trubek Sundays on The Terrace Resumes May 31

The Katherine Trubek Sundays on the Terrace series encourages families to create works of art while enjoying an afternoon at one of the prettiest places in all of New Jersey. Everyone is welcome to participate in our free Trubek program Sunday, May 31, from 1 to 4 PM.

This series honors Katherine Bell Trubek (1904-1991), one of the artist founders of the Hunterdon Art Museum.

Future Katherine Trubek Sundays on the Terrace events are June 14, Sept. 13 and Oct. 4. This series is supported by a gift from the Trubek family.
