Every actor begins a rehearsal process with two powerful tools: their character’s dialogue and their own personality.

This eight week course is designed to help you develop techniques to utilize your own personality to examine the text and discover your unique version of a character—the version best-suited to who you are and what you bring to a cast.

We’ll discover these techniques through classic exercises, improvisational scenarios and brief “Phantom Scenes,” then move quickly to 2-person scene work.  Veteran performers and less-experienced actors alike will enjoy an opportunity to experiment and find their own path to one-of-a-kind characters.

John A.C. Kennedy is an actor, director and playwright, having directed and performed in many plays in New York and Los Angeles.  His recent local work includes directing Clybourne Park at The Chatham Playhouse.

Mr. Kennedy received his MFA from The California Institute of the Arts and is a graduate of the Hagen Teacher Training program at HB Studios, where he currently studies acting with Austin Pendleton.  His one-act play Wendy was this month as part of Luna Stage’s New Moon Short Play Festival, and will receive a full production as part of the 21st Annual Jersey Voices at The Chatham Playhouse.
