MORRIS MUSEUM ROLLS OUT MARCH 2015 PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS

ADULT PROGRAMS AT THE MORRIS MUSEUM

WHERE: Morris Museum, 6 Normandy Hgts. Rd., Morristown

The line-up features our new Touch Tour program; a panel discussion with the contemporary craft artists featured in the current exhibition, Accessorize: The Person and The Place; and a lecture on the hidden stories "behind the music" arrangements on the automatic musical instruments from the Guinness Collection. Other highlights include a jazz performance, a mosaic birdbath studio art workshop, and a palette as paper studio art workshop.

The Morris Museum is excited to present two opportunities to meet the craft artists featured in the 2015 New Jersey Craft Arts Annual exhibition, Accessorize: The Person and The Place. The panel discussion will be followed by a tour of the exhibition.  Light refreshments will be served.

The 2015 New Jersey Craft Arts Annual features works by 27 New Jersey-based artists. From wearable art, including jewelry and fashion-inspired works, to accessories for the home, such as furniture, sculpture, and other decorative works, the 60 objects in the exhibition explore the concept of “accessorizing” both the person and the place. In showcasing craft artisans who epitomize innovative design and a mastery of technique and craftsmanship, this show celebrates traditional craft mediums that are presented in unique ways.

Mosaic Bird Bath Workshop with Eleanor Parr-DiLeo

In this workshop, learn basic tile-cutting techniques, placement of tiles, gluing and grouting as you create a colorful bird bath to welcome your feathered friends back to the neighborhood this spring!

Astro Day

Astro-Day[1]The Morris Museum Astronomical Society will host a fun-filled family event that is out of this world! Astronomy programs, children’s activities, and interactive displays will be scheduled throughout the day, with night sky observing of the moon, planets and other celestial objects (weather permitting) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Astro Day will also feature two guest speakers: John Scala, Planetarium Director of Lenape Valley Regional High School in Stanhope, NJ, will give a talk entitled How to Locate Planets. In addition, Lonny Buinis, Instructional Designer at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ, will discuss The Extended Habitable Zone: New Ideas about Finding Earthlike Civilizations.

Paper as Palette Workshop with Nina Nemeth

Have fun using a number of different papers to create and "color in" realistic or abstract artwork. Explore building rich images by layering colors and print found in magazines, photographs, newspaper, gift wrap, etc.

About the Morris Museum
Founded in 1913, the Morris Museum is an award-winning, community-based arts and cultural institution which serves the public through high caliber exhibitions in the arts, sciences and humanities.  The Museum also offers educational programs, family events, and is home to the Bickford Theatre and its wide range of performing arts offerings. Location & Hours
The Museum is located at 6 Normandy Heights Road (at the corner of Columbia Turnpike) in Morristown, NJ, and is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, 12:00 to 5:00pm. In addition, the Museum is open evenings from 5:00 to 8:00pm on the second and third Thursday of the month. Admission to the Museum is $10 for adults and $7 for children, students and senior citizens.
