FADO LEGEND TO PERFORM @ NJPAC NEXT SUNDAY

Camané / Dead Combo

WHEN: Sunday, March 15, at 7 PM
WHERE: Prudential Hall, NJPAC, One Center Street, Newark

Called “the greatest fadista since Amália Rodrigues and Maria da Fé,” Camané is a leading male fadista of his generation—a musical adventurer and guardian of the Portuguese national soul. His silky and understated voice, along with his daring and charismatic interpretations of fado, have drawn praise from critics around the world. Dead Combo (“Lisboa Mulata”), the Portuguese band that reinvented fado, shares the stage.

Camané has sold more than 6 million albums and is frequently on tour in Europe. He made his long-awaited North American debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival in 2011.

Tó Trips and Pedro Gonçalves are Dead Combo: incarnates of an undertaker and a gangster. Dead Combo has released seven albums, three of which were awarded Record of the Year and Record of the Decade in Portugal. Their latest album, Lisboa Mulata, features Marc Ribot.
