Joining them for this concert will be Encore Young Artists and Joshua Groffman, Composer-in-Residence. The evening’s performance will adhere to the highest standards, as talented musicians uphold the heritage of greatness and beauty in choral music.

Darkness into Light brings together two major works and a stunning new piece by Joshua Groffman to the audience. While the Russian Army was besieging Nazi-occupied Budapest, Zoltán Kodály was forced to hide in the darkness of a cellar for safety, where his luminous Missa Brevis took shape. Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms both soothes and excites the spirit with its tranquil setting of the 23rd psalm in clear, youthful tones set against complex choral rhythms as only Bernstein could so masterfully write.
