Tapestry Exhibition Opens Jan. 11

Tapestries might conjure up images of medieval castles, unicorns and other mythical beasts, but a new exhibition at the Hunterdon Art Museum weaves a fascinating picture of how the art form has evolved.

Contemporary International Tapestry highlights the work of artists from nine countries who are elevating tapestry to a whole new level of technical and aesthetic excellence. The exhibition opens Jan. 11, 2015, with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. featuring talks from artists from around the world.

Get Creative This New Year!

Get your new year off to a great creative start by taking a class at the Hunterdon Art Museum. We feature a wide array of terrific classes that will expand your horizons and teach you the techniques you'll need to create beautiful art.

We offer classes taught by top-notch professional artists and educators for children, teens and adults at all skill levels.

Highlights include:

Classes for Children

Mix It Up: Paint, Clay and Fiber (Starts Wednesday, Jan. 14) Explore two- and three-dimensional art with paint and clay, plus soft materials such as felt, fabrics, and stuffing.  Make a masterpiece or create your own plush toy! Ages 4 to 6. Taught by Nancy Miller.

Open Studio: Art Work (Starts Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 PM)  A true studio art class for the beginning artist or someone developing their skills. Weekly projects encourage exploration of traditional wet and dry materials including pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Ages 10 to 13. Taught by Lena Shiffman.

Classes for Adults

Introduction to Oils (Starts Monday, Jan. 12 at 11 AM) Learn to use oil paints in a relaxed and fun class.

Proper use of materials, canvas preparation, composition, mixing colors and brushwork, will be covered in this class. Taught by Lena Shiffman.

Introduction to Printmaking (Starts Tuesday Jan. 13 at 11 AM) Learn the exciting art of printing – a thoroughly unique combination of painting and printmaking. Participants will also learn the art of chine colle (the application of rice paper), as well as xerox transfer and embossing. Taught by Jessica Lenard.
