FREE PRESENTATION ABOUT MOVIE SHORTS @ THE MONTCLAIR PUBLIC LIBRARY

THE MAKING OF SHORTS 101

WHEN: Sunday, January 25, 3-5 PM
WHERE:
Bellevue Library, 185 Bellevue Ave., Upper Montclair
ADMISSION: Free

For the lovers of short films, the producers of “Oscar Shorts—Celebrate the Underdog” are partnering with the Montclair Public Library and Mt. Hebron Middle School for a special, free presentation: “The Making of Shorts 101.”

“The Making of Shorts 101” is a detailed look at the process and challenges of making short films: from developing a story, to planning, filming, editing and the distribution of that film—especially if the goal is to be eligible for Oscar® nomination. Corinna Sager, who co-produced the 2004 Academy Award® nominated short documentary “Ferry Tales,” will lead through the program. “Shorts 101” will also feature student pieces from Mt. Hebron’s Broadcast Video class, which teaches students at a young age the basic elements of film making. The event culminates with a special screening of “Ferry Tales.”

“Shorts 101” is part of the ongoing commitment of the producers of “Oscar Shorts,” Jeanne Reilly and Corinna Sager, to bring short films to the Montclair Community. “Oscar Shorts—Celebrate the Underdog,” now in its 6th year, will once again screen all of this year’s Academy Award® nominated short films on Sunday, February 22nd from 10 AM – 6 PM. For tickets and information please visit www.oscarshortsmontclair.com.

"Oscar Shorts—Celebrate the Underdog" is a one-day film marathon showcasing all the current year's Oscar nominated short films (animated, live action, and documentary). These "underdogs" of the Academy Awards are great films that audiences hardly ever get to see. Many filmmakers start their careers in short films and we want to foster that appreciation and craft.

The festival also brings together students, industry experts and the local community of film lovers to share an experience that inspires, educates and entertains.

Corinna Sager is an award winning, international director and producer. She is the owner and President of Lifestyle International, a communications agency for corporate communications, TV/video productions, and live events. She has directed and produced in many countries around the world including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Singapore, Brazil, China, Russia, South Africa and even Togo.

She also co-produces short documentaries, which have screened at prestigious festivals around the world, such as Woodstock, Monaco, Hamburg and Palm Springs and been broadcast on HBO, PBS, IFC, and the Franco-German cultural channel ARTE. Her short documentary Ferry Tales, about the secrets of the Staten Island Ferry Women’s Powder Room, was nominated for a 2004 Academy Award®.

Corinna Sager is the co-founder and co-producer with Jeanne Reilly of “Oscar Shorts—Celebrate the Underdog” Film Festival, which screens all the Oscar nominated short films in Montclair, NJ.

Brian J Lacivita is an experienced member of the production community and the newest addition Mount Hebron Middle School staff. Before becoming the Broadcast Studio instructor at Mount Hebron, Brian worked in various production and educational positions in the Philadelphia area.
