PERFORMANCE DATES: March 13 - April 4, 2015 (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with possible additional Thursday night benefit performances).

SYNOPSIS:
A fictionalization of the courtroom tale of the intriguing genesis of the famous Scopes Monkey trial which debated creation versus evolution ideas being taught in schools. Focusing on "the dignity of the individual human mind", this drama takes on the idea of limiting anyones right to think, teach,and learn freely.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: (9 Males, 4 Females plus ensemble roles)

  • Howard (Boy 13 to 15 years old)
  • Melinda (Girl 13 to 15 years old)
  • Meeker (Male, 40s to 50s) – bailiff
  • Rachel (Female, early 20s) – teacher
  • Bert Cates (Male, early to mid 20s) – teacher (protagonist)
  • Reverend Jeremiah Brown (Male, late 40s to 50s) – minister
  • Mrs Brown (Female, late 40s to 50s)
  • E. K. Hornbeck (Male, mid 30s) – newspaperman
  • Harrison Brady (Male, 60s) - prosecuting attorney
  • Mrs Brady (Female, late 50s to 60s)
  • Mayor of Hillsboro (Male, 50s) Henry Drummond (Male, 60s) - Defense attorney
  • Tom Davenport (Male, 40s to 50s) - Circuit District Attorney

Men and women between 30 to 60 years are also needed for a dozen or so Townspeople roles with various speaking parts.

Actors are asked to arrive to sign in within the first hour of the audition start time.

All roles are available.

Casting is open, and newcomers are especially welcomed.

Crew and other volunteers are also needed for the event.
