What if you could single-handedly fight off 100 men? Or if your wit was as sharp as the sword you carry? And you wrote poetry that could make any person weep? Wouldn’t these attributes win you the affection of the woman you love? Not if you are Cyrano, whose oversized nose shames him into silence, believing no one could love him. (Above: Lenard Petit in MST's production of CYRANO. Photo by Joe Epstein.) Mile Square Theatre presents Cyrano, Jo Roet’s delightful adaptation of the classic tale about a poet-warrior with a very large nose and even larger heart. This swashbuckling production features 15 characters played by three versatile actors who bring the story to life with wild theatricality. Lenard Petit (star of MST’s A Christmas Carol and Artistic Director of the Michael Chekhov Studios) returns to MST’s stage as Cyrano, reprising his performance that opened MST’s doors 12 years ago. He is joined by emerging artists Meeya Davis and Will Hardyman. NOTE: on October 26 @ 5 PM, there will be an adjusted performance for children with special needs and their loved ones, sponsored by The Kessler Foundation. While Mile Square Theatre (MST), Hudson County's premiere professional theatre company, builds its new theatre space in The Artisan at 1408 Clinton Street, the company will perform across the street in the intimate Edge Lofts at 1405 Clinton, thanks to the generosity of Bijou Properties. Cyrano is presented with the generous support of Bijou Properties, Hoboken Family Alliance, Ironstate, The Kessler Foundation, Party with Purpose, The Provident Bank Foundation and the Rockefeller Group. THIS PROGRAM IS MADE POSSIBLE IN PART BY FUNDS FROM THE NEW JERSEY COUNCIL ON THE ARTS/DEPARTMENT OF STATE, A PARTNER AGENCY OF THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS AND BY FUNDS FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS, ADMINISTERED BY THE HUDSON COUNTY OFFICE OF CULTURAL & HERITAGE AFFAIRS, THOMAS A. DEGISE, COUNTY EXECUTIVE, AND THE BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS. |
