Male and female vocalists—amateur, professional, and retired—are invited to audition and learn more about the opportunity to sing in the Verismo Opera Chorus. Male singers, representing all vocal ranges and ages, are especially needed.
Applicants interested in learning more about Verismo Opera, the 2014-2015 season, and the Verismo Opera Chorus are invited to attend the organization's Open House on Saturday, September 6 at 1:00 PM at The Performing Arts School at Bergen Performing Arts Center, 1 Depot Square, in Englewood.
Applicants should have a working ability to read music and experience singing. The audition consists of singing five note scales. During the audition process, each singer's range and vocal category will be determined by Chorus Director Waldman. Applicants do not need to bring a song or music to the audition.

The audition site is handicapped accessible. Designated handicapped parking is available. Vocalists requiring a special accommodation should call 201.886.0561 at least two weeks before the audition.
During the company’s 25th anniversary season, Vive la France, choristers will perform in the company’s production of Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème on Sunday, October 19 and 26, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bergen Performing Arts Center, located at 30 North Van Brunt Street, in Englewood, New Jersey.
"Many of the great singers such as Sutherland and Caruso started their careers in an opera chorus, including myself. Singing in a chorus gives the vocalist a chance to be on a professional stage, helps get rid of nerves, and work with some of the top pros. A great chorus is the life blood of every opera,” said Amara.
Under Chorus Director and Associate Conductor Mara Waldman, singers will explore grand opera through live performances. The opera will be fully staged, with the cast performing in costume accompanied by an orchestra under internationally renowned Principal Conductor and Music Director Anthony Morss.
