The Chester Theatre Group kicks off its 2014-15 season with the award-winning Broadway play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, nominated for the Tony Award for best play and earned the Best Actress Tony for its star, Linda Lavin. (Above: Lauri MacMillan and Maryann Galife)

The titular character is Marjorie Taub, an aspiring intellectual and upper class matron in the throes of a mid-life crisis. Marjorie’s malaise has brought her to the conclusion she never will be more than mediocre. This isn’t helped by her elderly mother’s constant complaints about her shortcomings and her husband’s altruistic dedication to serving the needs of the homeless. Following an emotional outburst, Marjorie retires to the safety of her home to wallow. Unexpectedly invading her depression is flamboyant childhood friend Lee who becomes entrenched in the Taub household as a seemingly permanent guest, not only drawing Marjorie out of her dark mood, but affecting her marriage as well.

The cast features Lauri MacMillan of Dover, Steven Nitka of Hackettstown, Sharon Moran of Rockaway Township, Maryann Galife Post of Madison, and Rahul Sachdeva of Lake Hiawatha.
