Seventeen New Jersey kids will present the musical BUGSY MALONE, JR, this year’s presentation by THEATER PROJECT JR in Cranford. Each summer, the program takes students (ages 8 & up) through an eight week course that culminates in three performances for friends, family and the community. Along the way, students learn acting, build confidence in themselves, make friends and have a wonderful time.

“I have seen my son grow as an actor year after year with the Theater Project Jr group right in front of my eyes,” says parent Mindi Kaunfer of Springfield, NJ. “At 15, Adam has been acting for 5 years and has several school leads from the confidence the summer theater has provided him.”

Ten-year-old student actor Gerald Lang of Westfield says, “Acting is the chance to learn new things and meet new people.  I love acting and am really glad I auditioned for Theater Project Jr. Our director Mary and all the kids are so nice!”

“My son is getting a great introduction to theater, meeting new kids with similar interests, and overall having a wonderful time.  He can't wait to get to rehearsal each night!” says parent Judy Dougherty Lang.

BUGSY is based on the Jodie Foster film of the same name, where a “Little Rascals” troupe of child actors played the gangsters and gun molls of the roaring 20s, using lemonade for liquor and silly string shooters instead of side arms.

The cast includes young people from seven area towns.

  • Cranford: Chris Brightman, Isabel Graceffo, James Lynch, Mark Lynch, Mia Papapietro, Nina Papapietro, Amanda Poszyler, Ashleigh Poszyler, Sophie Zacharda.
  • Gillette: Shaye Bundonis.
  • Mountainside: Michael Mezzo.
  • Piscataway: Alexis Page, Jason Page.
  • Springfield: Adam Kaunfer.
  • Summit: Brooke Beckett, Stella Ferra.
  • Westfield: Gerard Lang
