“HISTORY OF SEPHARDIC JEWS OF CENTRAL NJ” ILLUSTRATED LECTURE IN FREEHOLD

imageThe Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will present "The History of the Sephardic Jews of Central New Jersey," a lecture given by Dr. Nathan Reiss, President, Jewish Historical Society of Central Jersey. Admission is free (donations are welcome). Light refreshments will be served.

The first Jews in America were of Spanish origin and came with Christopher Columbus in 1492. In the early days of the United States, they became the majority of America’s Jews, and the Jewish population of Central New Jersey reflected this pattern. Dr. Reiss will discuss the origin of the Sephardic Jews of Central New Jersey and show photos and documents that trace their experiences there.

Dr. Reiss, who has been engaged in the study of genealogy for more than 35 years and has written extensively on the subject, is a former professor in the Department of Meteorology and Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University.

The Museum is located at 310 Mounts Corner Drive, Freehold Township. It is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and is handicapped accessible. For more information call the Museum (732.252.6990) or visit www.jhmomc.org.
