The first title to be featured in the freshly launched New Works Reading Series, this Equity-approved reading and sing-through will feature professional actors including special guests from the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players.
With music by Eric Allaman and libretto by Jeffrey Couchman, Battleship Potemkin is musically directed by Micah Young and is a through-composed musical inspired by Sergei Eisenstein's landmark silent film (1925).
This is the story of a young sailor named Alyosha, his shipmates and his family, all of them entangled in tragic events of the abortive 1905 Russian revolution. It is a tale of everyday people battling oppression. In their passionate struggle, Alyosha and his friends and loved ones embody the resilience of the human spirit.
The reading is presented by Algonquin Arts Theatre in association with The York Theatre (New York, NY).
Algonquin Arts Theatre (AAT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1992 with the mission to provide cultural enhancement and arts education to all audiences at the Jersey Shore through high-quality performances and programs in theatre, music, film and dance.
