The show is one of the most acclaimed musicals of our time, and presents a moving study of the enigmatic painter Georges Seurat. The musical won a Pulitzer Prize for its deeply insightful and highly personal examination of life through art and the artist. The musical also won two Tony Awards, and numerous Drama Desk and Outer Critics awards. (Above L-R: John Zimmerman as George and Madeline Fansler as Dot)

4thWall’s production features Madeline Fansler, John Zimmerman, Christine Orzepowski, Kim Mesiti, James Lopez, Molly Richardson, Megan Moynahan, Peter Downing, Heather Jones, Ted Cancila, Noah Brendemuehl, Gira Derise Weaver, Molly Dunn, Jacob Haury, Rich Maloy, Jodi Maloy, Sharon DeRosa Smolen, Beatriz Esteban-Messina, Alexander Oleksij, Alan Van Antwerp, and Jessica Katz

Kate Swan, Artistic Director of 4th Wall and a Teaneck resident directs. She is joined by Markus Hauck, a long-time 4th Wall music director and West Orange resident. Gwen Ricks-Spencer, formerly of Montclair, and Kathi Ianncone formerly of West Orange are the Production Managers, while Martha Thalheimer of West Paterson serves as the Stage Manager.

Executive Director, Gwen Ricks-Spencer is excited to tackle this show, “It has been on 4thWall’s ‘bucket list’ for quite a while. The minimal requirements of a concert version made it possible for us to mount this production, but we’re going all out on the music and musicians for the show.”

Swan is just as excited to direct the piece, noting that she didn’t grow up listening to Sondheim musicals. “We were a classic musicals family and listened to albums from Oklahoma! to Annie with lesser known shows peppered liberally throughout, but my folks did not love the Sondheim melodies. When I got to college, someone introduced me to Sunday in the Park with George. I listened...and wept and committed the lyrics to memory. It is still my favorite of his shows.”
