Consisting of three one acts centered on the issues of relationships, job loss and identity theft, the play paints a portrait of the modern American man and his inevitable demise. It asks if one can still exist if stripped of the American dream and its promises?

The play looks at the American dream through the eyes of Jack, a once-promising, now-aging actor who is losing perspective of his dream life filled with love, job security, and family. The Destruction of the American Male explores the three things that define us most:  our romantic relationships, our jobs, and our sense of identity. Sadly, the three are deteriorating every day because of unrealistic expectations, meaningless work due to a corrupt and failing financial system, and identity theft,” says playwright DeBari. “The play’s protagonist, Jack, is just the latest victim.”

Debari, born in Point Pleasant and residing in Brick, is an award-winning screenwriter, independent filmmaker, and co-founder of Mindbreak Entertainment.  He has taught Acting and Independent Filmmaking at Ocean County College.  He has written guest columns for local New Jersey newspapers and freelanced for Greater Media Newspapers where he interviewed actor Frank Vincent. DeBari has done voice over work and been guest judge the last four years for Ocean County College's Speech and Theater Competition.

Black Box is currently in preproduction for Alexis Kozak’s irreverent new comedy, 0 Days Since Last Miracle, whose logline runs, “When two Catholic high school girls fake a ketchupy stigmata to get out of their Spanish final, will all hell break loose?” Kozak, who currently runs the New Play Initiative, says, “We are really the only game in town when it comes to taking the risk on new voices, new points of view, and staging new plays.  We are proud of our continuing commitment to new work.”  0 Days will run June 14, 15, 16 at Gallery 13 in Asbury Park.
