IMG_7115Looking to break into the competitive and confusing world of professional theater, film, TV or modeling? Now’s your chance to be discovered!

The School of Performing Arts at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is presenting Casting Call, an open talent search, where actors, singers, improv artists and models—ages 3½ and up —will have a rare opportunity to audition for top theatrical agents and managers from New York City and New Jersey.

Taking a new approach from years past, this years Casting Call is a new, greatly expanded program designed to not only identify talent, but to coach and train aspiring artists for a multi-tiered audition process that offers greater promise for success.

First, there will be a preliminary open audition, where candidates perform for industry professionals and agency scouts. Children ages 3½ to 6 years of age prepare a short song, poem, joke or story that shows personality; ages 7 and up prepare a short monologue (30 seconds or less) or sing 16 bars of a song, bringing a CD or ipod for accompaniment.

After the audition, the talent scouts will make one of three recommendations for next steps.

• Those who show obvious potential will advance to a second or Final Casting Call on November 4. Candidates called back for this audition should use the material from the Open Audition and bring sheet music in their key, as accompaniment will be provided.

• Those with talent, who could benefit from some extra coaching, will have the opportunity to be coached on their performance pieces or presentations, so they can be better prepared to perform in the Final Audition on November 4. The coaching sessions will take place Thursdays, October 10, 18 & 25, from 5:51-6:45 PM OR Sundays, October 14, 21 & 25, 4 – 5:30 PM.

• Those with talent, who are not yet ready for professional work, will be evaluated and advised on ways to develop their individual strengths for future, private auditions in the Spring. This will include a pre-professional train program that centers on workshops, lessons and coaching under the guidance of the JCC School of Performing Arts gifted staff. Opportunities to audition and receive progress assessments will be offered every six months.

This new approach is the best, most reliable way to ensure a successful audition and secure potential agents when looking to break into show business. Top level agents who will judge at the November 4 Final Call include Abrams Artists, Wilhelmina, Generation TV, Goldstar and others. People who have auditioned at previous Casting Calls at the JCC are currently appearing on Broadway, in films, commercials, voice-overs, on network TV and Nickelodeon.

All auditions will be held in the Eric Brown Theater on the second floor of the JCC.
