Two River Theater Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, announces an open call for Boléro Red Bank, a world premiere created by visionary modern-dance choreographer Larry Keigwin.

This community art event, set to the rousing score of Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, will feature professional dancers from KEIGWIN + COMPANY performing alongside members from Red Bank and the larger Monmouth County community from ages 2 to 102. This large-scale flash mob will incorporate a cast of 50-plus people—no prior dance experience is required and people of all abilities are encouraged to participate.

Rehearsals are Monday-Friday from 5-9 PM over the following two weeks. Keigwin understands that participants have outside commitments and the company makes every effort to accommodate the busy schedules of the cast. Keigwin will create Boléro Red Bank through a collaborative process with the participants, capturing the unique qualities of their lives and celebrating the spirit of our community in the final performance.

Boléro Red Bank will be performed on Two River’s Rechnitz Stage on July 20 and 21 at 8 pm as part of a program that will also include four pieces from KEIGWIN+COMPANY’s professional repertoire: Caffeinated (2007), Love Songs (2006), Triptych (2009) and Contact Sport (2012).

“Larry Keigwin is one of the most adventurous artists in the world of contemporary dance,” says Two River Artistic Director John Dias. “His work is wildly inventive and very theatrical—and he’s passionate about working with community members and inviting people into the creative process. That’s something we believe in, too. Boléro Red Bank is a fantastic opportunity for us to collaborate with a world-class artist, host an exceptional company, and continue to build our community through participation in the arts.”

Founded in 2003 by Artistic Director Larry Keigwin and Associate Director Nicole Wolcott, KEIGWIN + COMPANY creates and presents Keigwin’s electrifying brand of contemporary dance. K+C reaches national and international audiences and invigorates diverse communities with a refreshing vision of dance that embodies a theatrical sensibility of wit, style, and heart. Community projects and education seek to physically engage audiences and aspiring dancers in movement and the choreographic process, and bring opportunities for individuals to become more invested in dance. Since K+C’s premiere performance at Joyce Soho, Keigwin has created 16 dances, including the large-scale Bolero and recent acclaimed works such as Runaway (2008), the site-specific Sidewalk (2009), and Bird Watching (2010).
