The evening will feature the outstanding talents of the Nimbus Dance Works, Randy James Dance Works and Lustig Dance Theatre. The presentation is part of the Theatre’s 2011-2012 Major Artists Series.
Nimbus Dance Works will present Memo, featuring choreography by Samuel Pott and music by Dvorak, Bloch, Prokofiev and Rochberg. The piece was inspired by Pott’s desire to create a work that emanated out of the personal experience of each dancer. Pott explains that he “wanted to find a process that would compel the dancers to speak directly and honestly through movement about subjects of importance in their lives.”
Lustig Dance Theatre will present Pulcinella, featuring choreography by Graham Lustig and a neo-classic score by Igor Stravinsky. In the piece Lustig explores the Commedia dell’arte, the Italian form of theatre that began in the mid-16th Century and was characterized by masked “types” of iconic characters. A farcical forerunner to slap stick, Commedia dell’arte is the perfect setting for this high-spirited romp to one of the world’s greatest pieces of music.
