Book Discussion Group This month, Librarian Catherine LaBelle leads the group's discussion of Exiles by Elliot Krieger. The novel explores the lives of American expatriates in Sweden during the Vietnam War. You can also meet the author when he visits the Library on Oct. 16! How to Make a Smooth Transition into Retirement WHEN: Thursday, October 6, at 7-8:30 PM Retirement income planning is a subject that everyone needs to address eventually. You are probably familiar with saving and investing for retirement, but you may need some help figuring out how to make sure your investments carry you through your retirement years. This workshop can help. Julius Atterberry of Merrill Lynch will discuss today's retirement realities. He'll explain why income planning is critical and provide various strategies for you to consider. Senator Richard Codey Book Talk and Signing WHEN: Thursday, October 13, at 7 PM Meet NJ State Senator and former Governor Richard J. Codey when he visits the Library to reveal all about his long career in New Jersey politics. Senator Codey will also sign copies of his recent memoir, Me, Governor? Former West Orange resident, Author Eliott Krieger will read from his novel Exiles. The novel tells the story of Lenny Spiegel, a naïve American college student who finds himself in Sweden among Vietnam War draft resisters masquerading as a wanted man. Krieger won an O. Henry Award for his first published short story, "Cantor Pepper," and he is the author of a book on Shakespeare's comedies. He has served as a reporter and editor at the Providence Journal. This program is funded by a donation from the family of Florence B. Mantell. Register online for this free program. Raising Financially Responsible Children Joseph Paperman of New York Life provides tips for raising financially responsible children. This free workshop was developed in conjunction with Neale Godfrey, an acknowledged expert on family and children's finances. Parents will learn how to teach children the value of money and how to assist them in becoming fiscally responsible throughout their lives. Click here to register. Film and Dessert Enjoy a feature film with cookies and coffee or tea. This month's feature film is the romantic comedy Just Go With It starring Adam Sandler, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Anniston.
