The Lies, Light, McCarthy Visiting Author Program is an annual event that was the dream of a former English department head, Victoria McCarthy.  A fund was established in her honor after her death.  The fund is named after Stuart’s three former English department heads:  Betty Lies, Nancy Light and Victoria McCarthy ’71. The goal of the program is to bring prominent authors to Stuart who will share their knowledge and experiences with the students. Past Visiting Authors include Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon (2009) and best-selling novelist Jonathan Safran Foer (2010).
