Mosaic returns for a fourth straight celebration of National Dance Week with exciting new pieces and favorites from the company’s repertoire of dance from the Near East and the Mediterranean region.

Mosaic Dance Theater Company, under the Artistic Direction of Samara Adell, the company’s choreographer, will premiere several new pieces by Samara:  Fantasie Orientale, an oriental ballet; Ahla Nar, a Flamenco/Arabe fusion dance; Saiidi Moderne and Tahtil Al Shibbak, both  contemporary saiidi dances, performed by the company and by Samara, respectively.  To continue its popular story-theater traditions, the company will debut a solo retelling of Abu Nuwas and His Wife.  Also on the program are  several choreographies from their repertory of folkloric dances from the Near East:  Raks al Saiid, an exuberant folkloric dance of Upper Egypt, which includes the popular raks assaya (cane dance) and sagat (finger cymbals);  Taal al Eid, a lively theatrical dabke-style dance from Lebanon which premiered last season; and The Boating Party,  an interpretive “pharaonic” dance work inspired by an ancient Egyptian text from the Old Kingdom (4,000 B.C.).
