BIBLICAL MUSICAL ONSTAGE IN FORT LEE!

Godspell (an archaic spelling of Gospel) is an inventive retelling of the Gospels, primarily based on the Books of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament. Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music for Pippin and Wicked, penned the music.

Godspell is not, as some people think, the story of the passion of Christ. It is a joyful musical, featuring songs like "Day by Day," and "Bless the Lord", and focusing primarily on the playful enactment of parables told in Matthew and other books of the New Testament. The last days of Jesus are depicted toward the end of the show.

Day by Day, from the original cast album, reached #13 on the Billboard pop singles chart in the summer of 1972. The musical celebrates its 40th anniversary this year!
