ANNUAL LIGHT OF DAY CHARITY EVENT This weekend, the light is shining on Asbury Park. The now-legendary Annual Light of Day Parkinson's Charity Event runs 4 days, includes 7 venues, 9 events and features more than 75 artists! Begun as a single concert at the Stone Pony, the star-studded event has grown into 23 shows in more than a dozen countries. The mission is to fund research into possible cures, improve treatments, quality of life, and support patients and caregivers suffering from Parkinson's and related illnesses. The series begins at the Showroom venue with the premiere of the new documentary Just Around the Corner, directed by Jim Justice and Steve Caniff and featuring Bruce Springsteen and Michael J. Fox. The docu-mentary chronicles Foundation founder and music industry icon Bob Benjamin and his battle against Parkinson's. (See schedule of events below) Last year, Springsteen surprised the crowd at the Saturday night show at the Paramount Theatre. Local musicians participating this year include the shore's country-rocker Corey Wagar (picured) and veteran Ronnie Brandt. There are still tickets available to some shows-- or you can donate to the Light Of Day Foundation. "These concerts shine a great spotlight on our 'city by the sea", says Brandt. In fact, the Light Of Day shows will serve as the inaugural event celebrating "Musical Heritage Year 2011" by the Smithsonian Institute. Asbury Park has been honored as the first city to host the traveling Musical Heritage Exhibit in March.
