SHIRAH: Community Chorus on the Palisades is one of the largest and most respected non-synagogue-affiliated choral groups in the country. Based in Bergen County, the chorus draws its transdenominational membership from all over the metropolitan area. The chorus performs an exciting mix of folk tunes in Hebrew, English, Yiddish and Ladino, liturgical repertoire, and a classic mix of historical Jewish music.

Founding Director and Conductor Matthew Lazar says, "This concert will be an enjoyable and entertaining way of celebrating the culture and history of the Jewish People and Hanukkah."

This concert is made possible by founders Bernie & Ruth Weinflash and their Shirah Endowment Fund in Tribute to Matthew Lazar, the Ethel & Irving Plutzer Endowment Fund for the Shirah Choir and the Rhoda Toonkel Endowment for the Shirah Choir.

The Thurnauer School of Music (www.jccotp.org/thurnauer) is among 45 arts organizations in New Jersey designated as “Major Arts Institutions” by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.  As New Jersey's leading community music school, it serves over 700 students in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. It also serves as an area cultural resource by presenting over thirty concerts annually as well as master classes with world-renowned artists. The School is a member of the National Guild of Community Arts Education and an integral part of the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. JCC membership is not a requirement for enrollment or financial aid at the Thurnauer School which is supported, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
