AFRICAN DANCE ENSEMBLE APPEARS IN MAPLEWOOD

Bernard Woma, one of Ghana's greatest traditional xylophone players and lead drummer of the Ghana National Dance Ensemble, with his own group, Saakumu!

  • The award-winning Saakumu Dance Troupe is one of the leading traditional/contemporary dance and music groups in Ghana, West Africa. Led by master musician, Bernard Woma, the group's music and dance is joyful, expressive and highly participatory.
  • The Rhythm Monsters, perform traditional West African drumming, singing and dancing
  • Vida Mawufemo, great dancer from Ghana
  • Mama Yaa and the Pyramyd Dance Company

There will be plenty of opportunity for the audience to get up and dance to different West African drumming pieces, as well as to sit back and enjoy some great folkloric dancing displays.

Part of the proceeds go to the Kopeyia Ghana School Fund, Inc, to support scholarships for deserving graduates of the Kopeyia, Bloomfield Junior Secondary School in Kopeyia, Ghana to continue their education in Vocational, Polytechnic, and University institutions in Ghana.
