MONTCLAIR OPERETTA CLUB ENTERS “SEASON OF GROWTH”

Montclair Operetta Club has been producing musicals for 85 years, since their founding in 1925! And they never do it by half: witness a magnificent Titanic! and Ragtime in recent years, not to mention a gripping Cabaret and a sweet Meet Me in St. Louis, in their old home at Mt. Hebron School in Montclair. If you love Broadway musicals, you must put MOC on your list of must-sees. They produce 2 musicals a year at the Westminster Art Center on the campus of Bloomfield College.

Announcing the 2010-2011 season . . .

MOC’s theme this season is "Growth."  MOC will grow by presenting two musicals that they’ve never done before.  In Company, Bobby grows as he figures out his life.  In Gypsy, Rose grows as her mother pushes her into vaudeville. Please join MOC as they celebrate the 80th birthday of theater legend Stephen Sondheim with the presentation of two of his most notable shows.

In 1959, Sondheim (lyrics) collaborated with Jule Styne (music), Stephen Laurents (book) and Jerome Robbins (director) to create Gypsy. The show tells the story of stage mother Rose as she pushes her daughters Louise (later known as Gypsy) and June into vaudeville. Watch Mama focus all her attention on her older, less talented daughter Louise—and the outcome she never would have predicted! The score includes the standards "Let Me Entertain You" and "Everything's Coming Up Roses."
