COMMUNITY THEATRE PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL ANNOUNCES FALL CLASS REGISTRATION

For those of you who live in or close to Morris County, here is a program that will satisfy all the drama princesses and princes you know and enable young singers to find their inner Gleek or American Idol:

Registration for The Community Theatre’s Fall Performing Arts Classes is now open.

A variety of classes will be available for children beginning at age 5 and through students age 18. Classes begin the week of September 20 and run through late January. Classes will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Theatre. Cost for classes ranges from $250-$475, depending on the length and type of the class.

Several evening adult courses will also be available, including Adult Cabaret Workshop and Adult Acting/Improv Workshop.

Registration forms can be mailed in (The Community Theatre PAS, 100 South St. Morristown, NJ, 07960) or sent in by fax (973.455.1607). There is a 10% discount for two classes or two family members; 15% off for three or more classes. Limited scholarships available based on need.

Auditions for The Community Theatre Performing Arts Company will take place Sunday, September 19. Auditions are open for children ages 11-18. The Performing Arts Company is a group of performers who entertain at various venues throughout the county.

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. MUSICAL THEATER
Broadway Kids: Ages 5-6 (2 classes)
WHEN: Tuesdays 4-5 PM or Wednesdays 4:30 – 5:30 PMA fun introduction to musical theatre! Work on basic singing skills, movement, stage presence and acting.
COST: $250.00

Broadway Kids 2: Ages 7-8 (2 classes)
WHEN: Mondays: 4-5 PM or Tuesdays 5-6 PM
Young performers work on singing, dancing and acting skills while working toward an end of semester performance.
COST: $250.00

Musical Theatre Workshop – Junior Ages 9-12 (2 classes)

Musical Theatre technique for the young triple-threat performer! Students sharpen performance skills while working on solos, group numbers and scenes from classic musicals.
COST: $300.00

Teen Musical Theatre Workshop – Ages 12-18
WHEN: Mondays: 7-8:30 PM Musical Theatre workshop for the serious performer. Class focuses on song performance, scene study and sharpening dance skills while working on solos, duets and scenes from Broadway musicals.
COST: $300.00

Broadway Master Program – ages 14-18
WHEN: Tuesdays: 8-9:30 PM For the accomplished teen performer. Work on advanced song performance, audition technique, monologue preparation and choreography. Great for repertoire building, school and college audition preparation!
COST: $300.00

Cabaret Workshops for Adults
Have you always wanted to sing in front of an audience? We are pleased to offer this exciting new workshop under the direction of 2 NYC Cabaret professionals! Each 6-week workshop culminates in a Starlight Room cabaret performance on the last week. For the beginner through accomplished performer ages 18 & up! Fee includes a 30-minute private coaching and dress rehearsal.
WHEN: Wednesdays: 2 times to choose from: 6:30 – 8:00 PM  or 8:00 – 9:30 PM
  • Session 1: September 15th – October 20th
  • Session 2: October 27th – December 8th

SATURDAY PROGRAMS
If you are looking for something a little more intensive, the Saturday programs are for you!

Broadway Kids Saturday: Ages 7-10
WHEN: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Have fun while working on musical theatre performance skills. This expanded workshop will include classes and workshops in singing, dancing and acting while rehearsing for a polished end of semester performance!
COST: $375.00

Saturday Musical Theatre Workshop: Ages 10-15
WHEN: 11:00 AM– 2:00 PM
This exciting program covers many aspects of musical theatre performance while working toward a polished production. Students learn singing skills and song performance, acting, musical theatre dance and much more. Learn from professional artists in an exciting and creative environment. Guests include Broadway performers and industry professionals!
COST: $475.00

New!! Saturday Musical Theatre Workshop – Advanced: Ages 13-18
WHEN: 2:00 – 5:00 PM
Registration by permission or audition only. This new program is meant for students who have been in the Saturday program for 3 or more semesters or who have similar professional level experience. Students will perfect their individual and ensemble performance skills using advanced material and curriculum in a conservatory style set-up.

Expand your imagination and sharpen your acting skills
Acting Kids: Ages 6-8
WHEN: Tuesdays: 4-5 PM
Have fun while learning the fundamentals of acting. Gain stage presence and basic acting technique through theatre games, improvisation and scenes.

Acting Workshop Junior : Ages 9-12
WHEN: Tuesdays 5-6:30 PM
Acting technique for the young performer! Work on acting skills, stage presence, character development and improvisation in a fun and creative atmosphere.
COST: $300.00

Acting Performance Workshop: Ages 13-18
WHEN: Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:00 PM
Learn good, solid acting technique, and gain a strong foundation while rehearsing a one-act play to be performed at the end of the semester.
COST: $300.00

New!! Acting/Improv Workshop for Adults: Ages 18 & up

For the beginner to experienced performer! Have you always wanted to act and perform in front of an audience? Have a great time working on improv exercises, scenes and monologues. Learn good solid acting technique in a fun and creative atmoshpere. Class work toward improv night and showcase.

Improv Troupe: Ages 13 – 18
WHEN: Wednesdays 7:00 – 8:30 PM
If you like improvisation comedy, this workshop is for you! Work on improvisation technique, theatre games and exercises. The semester will culminate in a Night at the Improv performance
COST: $300.00

SINGING TECHNIQUE

Singing Kids – ages 7-10
WHEN: Wednesdays 4:30 – 5:30 PM
A great class for young singers to gain confidence and learn proper vocal technique. Have fun while working on solos and group numbers in a supportive atmosphere!
COST: $250.00

New! Group Pop/Broadway Vocal Workshop - ages 11-18
WHEN: Wednesdays 5:00 – 6:30 PM
Do you want to sing like they do on Glee and American Idol? Then this class is for you. Work with professional vocal coaches on technique, song performance, harmony and ear training. Class will work toward an end of semester cabaret style performance featuring solos and group numbers.
COST: $300.00

PRIVATE COACHING
The Performing Arts School teachers are available for one-on-one coaching. Prepare for an audition, work on a song or monologue, or strengthen vocal technique skills. Sessions are sold individually and must be booked at least a week in advance. Please contact the Performing Arts School for more information or to schedule a coaching.

AUDITIONS

Performing Arts Company: Junior and Senior Company – ages 11-18
Our Performing Arts Company, now in its 4th year, is seeking talented musical theater performers ages 11-18 who can sing, dance and act, and are looking to use their talent to better the community! This musical troupe represents the Theatre by performing Broadway-style musical numbers at community events, fundraisers, hospitals, special events and festivals around New Jersey. This is a great opportunity to sharpen your skills, gain exposure and help those in need.

WHEN:  Sunday, September 19, 1:00 – 4:00 PM (sign up begins at 12:30 PM)
WHERE: The Community Theatre at Mayo Center for the Performing Arts, 100 South Street, Morristown (please use the 9 Pine Street entrance)
WHAT: Please prepare an uptempo song that shows off your vocal range and personality. Be prepared to dance.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays 6 – 8 PM and some Sundays 1-4 PM.
Performances: Varies (mostly weekends and Thursday evenings)
