Young People's Choruses provide children of diverse abilities and backgrounds with a comprehensive choral music experience as a way to further their personal and artistic growth and to foster cross-cultural understanding. Their musical selections reflect this point of view. Says Thurnauer director Dorothy Kaplan Roffman, “We are so excited to be bringing this wonderful opportunity to this area. The YPC commitment to excellence and diversity fits perfectly with our music school’s mission.”

YPC/Thurnauer will be under the direction of Emma Brondolo, a dynamic young choral director and music educator who came up through the ranks of YPC of New York City. Ms. Brondolo comments, “I can’t wait to begin this new choral adventure. The instrumental programs at the Thurnauer School are superb and well-known. We want to provide similar learning and performance opportunities for our choral singers.”

The YPC/Thurnauer is a national affiliate of the award-winning, multi-cultural Young People’s Chorus of New York CityTM which, under the artistic direction of founder Francisco J. Nuñez, has performed to wide acclaim at Carnegie Hall and the White House, as well as venues throughout the world. YPC has also been cited for its leadership in demonstrating a strong commitment to at-risk youth and as a “national model of artistic excellence and diversity” by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities. Mr. Nuñez said: “We are honored to be working with the prestigious Thurnauer School of Music, dedicated to bringing high art to children from all walks of life, as we firmly believe that music can be a catalyst for fulfilling every child’s potential.”

The Thurnauer School of Music (www.jccotp.org/thurnauer) is among 45 arts organizations in New Jersey designated as “Major Arts Institutions” by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State. As New Jersey's leading community music school, it serves over 700 students in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. It also serves as an area cultural resource by presenting over thirty concerts annually as well as master classes with world-renowned artists. The School is a member of the National Guild of Community Arts Education and an integral part of the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades.
