Bard at Bell Works Festival Continues this Weekend!  CHECK OUT THE LATEST NEWS!

This past weekend, we kicked off our first performances of The Bard at Bell Works! We wanted to thank everyone who came out this weekend — we were overwhelmed by your support. The Festival continues this weekend!

Gabriel Chajnik choreographed A Midsummer Night’s Dream back in 2018 for AXCBT’s first season. Reviving this ballet for The Bard at Bell Works fills us with joy for our organization's growth and our future in the arts.

Some of our original cast members that performed Chajnik’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream back in 2018, performing together again in 2021! [Above: Top row, left to right: Matteo Marretta (AXCBT Trainee), Olivia Miranda (AXCBT), Patrick Poole, Sophia Deno (APAA), Quincy Southerland (AXCBT), Lyda Cassidy (AXCBT Trainee) Bottom row, left to right: Lilakoi Grover (APAA), Natalie Rosati (APAA)]

Chajnik’s excerpts from his original West Side Story were postponed in April 2020, so it was also bittersweet to premiere this work over a year after the initial global shutdown. We are very grateful you experienced this momentous event with us. We could not have done this without you and your support!

"MAMBO!"

Reminder: All The World's A Stage! The Bard at Bell Works Outdoor Arts Festival

APRIL 11-25

AT BELL WORKS IN HOLMDEL, NJ

(LOCATED ON ROOF DECK & MAIN ATRIUM)

To celebrate William Shakespeare’s 457th birthday, join us for The Bard at Bell Works, an outdoor arts festival located at Bell Works Roof Deck. The festival will run April 11-25 and will feature Shakespeare classics, bard-inspired ballets, and live music.

This exciting event was created by Gabriel Chajnik, Artistic Director of Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater (AXCBT), Monmouth County’s premiere professional ballet company, and Director of Axelrod Performing Arts Academy (APAA), a pre-professional performing arts program residing in Bell Works.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

The first presentation of this fairy-filled fable is Gabriel Chajnik’s acclaimed ballet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream—Ballet. This whimsical retelling of the classic comedy features AXCBT professional dancers, APAA students, and the dynamic narration of Shakespearean actor Patrick Poole.

THE BARD ON BROADWAY

AXCBT professional dancers and the students of APAA also present The Bard on Broadway, a revue of songs and scenes from Shakespeare-themed shows and the plays that inspired them, such as Kiss Me, Kate, Something Rotten!, and West Side Story. Chajnik’s dancers will also premiere his original choreography for his West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet.

In preparation for this program, APAA’s pre-professional students were coached by our professional Broadway staff including Brian O’Brien (Chicago), Ross Lekites (Disney’s Frozen) and Aaron Kaburick (Something Rotten!).

THE SHAKESPEARE THEATRE OF NJ presents

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ (STNJ), one of the leading Shakespearean companies in the nation, will also perform Shakespeare’s classic comedy

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

directed by STNJ Director of Education Brian B. Crowe

In addition to incredible performances by AXCBT, APAA, and STNJ, festival goers can also experience Shakespeare-inspired foods created by Bell Market and short educational talk-backs regarding all things Shakespeare!

There will also be free, limited-seated screenings of Max Reinhart’s 1935 classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Michael Hoffman's 1999 interpretation, available only in AXCBT’s dance space.

*All performances will be held with socially distanced seating at
